Raw Material Files
In pharmacy you do not accept a raw material because the paperwork says so. Every incoming lot gets an identity test. Cosmetics does not work this way in practice — materials arrive with a certificate, the certificate is filed, and the material goes into the pot.
These are our files. One material at a time: what we ordered, what arrived, what the certificate claimed, and what we were able to verify. Files stay open until the analysis closes them.
The emulsifier that didn’t emulsify
Two suppliers, one INCI name. One sent a mass spectrum, a molecular weight distribution and six numbers that agree with each other. The other said they don’t do certificates. One made a cream, one made two layers.
